The Netherlands faces an impending decision by November 1 on its participation in next year's Eurovision song contest, following the disqualification of the country's candidate Joost Klein. Joost Klein, who faced a complaint by a female production crew member, was disqualified from the contest.
Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS confirmed in a statement on Thursday that discussions are ongoing with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the organization responsible for Eurovision. The broadcaster has asked for additional time to ensure that these talks bear fruit. The EBU has granted a postponement until November 1 for this decision.
Earlier in June, AVROTROS mentioned uncertainties regarding their participation next year after Klein, 26, was disqualified following a complaint. Swedish prosecutors later dropped the investigation into the incident, citing differing witness perceptions. Klein's song, 'Europapa,' had initially marked him as a strong contender in the recently concluded Eurovision held in Malmo, Sweden.
