About 45 Indian nationals have been discharged from the Russian army, according to a spokesperson for the Indian Foreign Ministry on Thursday. Efforts are underway to release an additional 50 Indians.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow in July, Russia committed to releasing any Indians falsely induced to join its army and subsequently forced into active combat in Ukraine.
