A significant public interest litigation (PIL) has been submitted to the Delhi High Court, emphasizing the severe sewer overflow experienced in the past year. This overflow has led to widespread water contamination and the spread of waterborne diseases in numerous areas across Delhi.
The PIL, filed by NGO Social Jurist, calls out the government's inaction on desilting sewers, lack of sewer cleaning machines, and outdated sewer infrastructure. The case, scheduled before Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela on Friday, seeks redressal on these pressing issues.
The petition blames an internal governmental tussle and financial mismanagement for exacerbating the problem. It demands immediate action from the Delhi Jal Board and the Finance Department to address the crisis, including establishing an independent committee to oversee resolutions.
