Explosive Tragedy at Ladies Hostel in Madurai: Two Dead, Two Injured

An explosion caused by a refrigerator at a ladies hostel in Madurai led to the tragic deaths of two women and injured two others. Authorities are investigating claims of the hostel being unlicensed and in poor condition, with officials ordered to inspect other hostels in the district.

Two women were killed and two others injured after a refrigerator explosion at a ladies hostel in Madurai early Thursday morning, officials said.

Madurai District Collector M S Sangeetha confirmed the fatalities, naming the deceased as Parimala and Saranya. IT Minister P Thiaga Rajan visited the victims and promised assistance, including alternative accommodation.

There are concerns about the hostel's legality and structural integrity, as a court case may be pending and a demolition notice was reportedly issued last year. An official enquiry is underway, and other hostels in the district are being checked.
