Hindenburg Research has expressed skepticism over SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch's continued silence on recent allegations of conflict of interest, impropriety, and financial transactions with various companies during her tenure as a market regulator.
In January 2023, Hindenburg had accused the Adani Group of using tax havens to evade local regulations and recently alleged that Buch's past investments may be delaying the investigation against the conglomerate. Both Buch and the Adani Group have denied these claims.
The opposition Congress party has also alleged that Buch holds substantial shares in a consultancy firm and that her husband, Dhaval Buch, had financial dealings with companies under SEBI scrutiny. Buch has not commented publicly, even as additional allegations have emerged concerning her previous consulting roles.
