Authorities in Maharashtra's Palghar district have apprehended two men for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The accused had reportedly lured the minor to a secluded location in Nalla Sopara on the early hours of September 2 before assaulting her, according to the police.
The girl's mother contacted authorities on September 6, following which suspects Rahul Gende (41) and Shahu, alias Lambu (35), were charged with gang rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Medical examinations were conducted on the child, police added. The delay in reporting the crime remains unexplained.
