Police have apprehended a 29-year-old man for the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old girl in a village in North Goa, an official revealed on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Mohammad Faiyaz Alam, was detained following a complaint lodged by the girl's father.

According to the complaint, the accused sexually assaulted the girl on September 9 when she was playing with his minor daughter in a shed near their homes. Both the complainant and the accused are neighbors in the village.

Law enforcement authorities have charged the suspect under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Goa Children's Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso Act), informed a senior police officer.
