Tensions Rise Over Unauthorized Mosque in Shimla: Calls for Vendor Policy

Amidst rising local tensions over an unauthorized mosque in Shimla's Sanjauli area, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu assured the state assembly of a forthcoming policy to regulate street vendors.

In response to Congress's Harish Janartha, Sukhu confirmed the formation of a committee to frame the vendor policy rules, stressing the importance of depoliticizing the issue and upholding the law. Sukhu emphasized that neither the ruling party nor the opposition should allow the escalation of unrest.

Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur expressed concerns over law and order, criticizing the committee formation as a delaying tactic. Recent protests led by Hindu right-wing groups have heightened tensions, spotlighting the urgent need for a vendor registration policy. Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh underscored the necessity of such a policy.
