EU Warns Strong Response to Iranian Missile Transfers to Russia

The transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia marks a serious military escalation, prompting the European Union to promise a 'strong response,' according to EU foreign affairs spokesperson Peter Stano on Tuesday.

The EU's diplomatic service, following a request from foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, has already presented its members with decisive and targeted countermeasures. Any such measures, however, would require unanimous approval from all 27 EU member states, Stano stated.

'We confirm we have received credible information about the delivery of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia,' Stano said. 'High Representative Borrell has consistently warned Iran against such actions during his bilateral contacts with Iranian counterparts.'

Stano emphasized that the transfer violates the U.N. Charter, international law, and international humanitarian law. He warned that this move would likely fuel Russia's intensive bombing campaign against Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure, exacerbating casualties and destruction. 'Such support to Russia's terrorising campaign against Ukraine's population will be met with a strong EU response,' he concluded.
