Delhi's Public Works Department minister, Atishi, on Tuesday, directed the department to cease any demolition at the Madrasi Camp slum cluster in southeast Delhi, warning of potential actions against violators.

Last week, PWD officials had pasted eviction notices in the Old Barapullah Bridge area, demanding residents vacate within five days. The locals, however, have refused to move unless provided with an alternative site.

Atishi highlighted various irregularities in the notices, asserting that Madrasi Camp is protected under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) as a JJ cluster, and therefore residents have the right to rehabilitation. Any demolition by the PWD would be illegal, she emphasized.
