The Manipur government on Tuesday took the dramatic step of suspending internet services statewide for five days amid escalating student protests.
The state home department issued a notification stating that the measure aims to stop the spread of hate speech, images, and videos on social media.
Effective from 3 PM on September 10 until 3 PM on September 15, the suspension includes mobile data, broadband, lease lines, VSATs, and VPN services.
Security forces responded with tear gas as students and women demonstrators attempted to march towards the Raj Bhavan, demanding the removal of the state DGP and security advisor, officials confirmed.
