In a pointed critique, Rajya Sabha member Upendra Kushwaha on Tuesday condemned the collegium system for appointing judges, attributing it with excluding backward groups from higher judiciary roles.
Addressing a press conference, the Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader underscored the lack of democracy within India's judiciary and called for the revival of the scrapped National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act. He also reiterated his support for a caste census, while rejecting the concept of a 'creamy layer' among Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
