On Tuesday, the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) claimed that the multi-purpose Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh will significantly impact lives and livelihoods in 236 villages of Odisha's Malkangiri district.

According to a fact-finding report by senior BJD leaders, residents in Kalimela, Padia blocks, and Motu gram panchayats will face displacement due to the project's backwaters.

BJD leaders urged strong opposition to the project at all levels, asserting it will severely affect Malkangiri's environment and public infrastructure.
