Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday criticized the BJP for claiming that the tribal population was declining in the state. He questioned why indigenous people were being deprived of their identity with a separate religious code called Sarna.

Speaking at the 'Apki Yojana, Apki Sarkar, Apke Dwar (your scheme, your government at your doorstep)' programme in Giridih, Soren mentioned that a resolution for a separate Sarna religious code was passed by the Jharkhand assembly and sent to the Centre, but it has not been approved.

The opposition often discusses issues like infiltration, 'love jihad', 'land jihad', and the declining population of tribals. Soren asked why the Sarna religious code has not been approved, suggesting that the lack of identity is contributing to population decline.

During the event, the CM laid foundation stones for 310 projects worth around Rs 465 crore for the Dhanbad and Giridih districts. He emphasized his government's commitment to working for the poor, highlighting initiatives such as agricultural loan waivers, free electricity up to 200 units for the poor, the establishment of schools of excellence, and women's empowerment programs.

More than 50 lakh women in Jharkhand are benefiting from the Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana, Soren added.
