A civil society group has raised its voice against discriminatory signboards that have appeared at the entrances of villages in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district. The signs initially banned 'non-Hindus,' but were changed to prohibit 'outsiders' after police intervention.
The group, comprising several retired civil servants and academics, has written to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, condemning the alleged discrimination targeting Muslims. The police have since removed the objectionable signboards and urged villagers to maintain social harmony.
In their letter, the civil society group highlighted that such actions tarnish the country's image and urged stringent measures against the perpetrators. They called for district officials to be held accountable if no action is taken to maintain social cohesion.
