Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai called on Monday for an investigation by a sitting high court judge into the controversial police encounter that led to the death of robbery accused Mangesh Yadav. Rai met with Yadav's family and extended his condolences.
Yadav was implicated in a Rs 1.5 crore heist at a jewellery store in Sultanpur. The Special Task Force claimed Yadav was killed in an encounter on September 5, 2024, with a reward of Rs 1 lakh on him.
Rai denounced the encounter as 'fake' and criticized Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alleging the incident was a case of murder meant to intimidate government critics. He demanded the probe to ensure transparency. Rai also accused the BJP of harboring criminals and using undue pressure on officials.
