A jeweller was brutally robbed of ornaments valued at Rs 18 lakh by masked men, local police confirmed on Tuesday.

The robbery unfolded near Lalchand Chapra village on the Laxmiganj-Pakadiyar road when Rajan Verma, who had just closed his shop, was heading home around 11 p.m. Three men on a motorcycle intercepted him. Verma attempted to escape but was forced off the road by the robbers, authorities reported.

In a bid to flee on foot, Verma was assaulted with firearms and sticks, sustaining injuries to his head and legs. The attackers seized his mobile phone before absconding with 2.5 kg of silver and 200 grams of gold jewellery, costing Rs 18 lakh, as detailed by Superintendent of Police Santosh Mishra. Law enforcement officials have begun an investigation, currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting raids to find the suspects involved.
