Polish security officials announced on Monday they have successfully thwarted a series of cyberattacks and online blackmail attempts orchestrated by groups affiliated with Russian and Belarusian services. The country has been experiencing up to 1,000 online attacks daily, primarily targeting government institutions and agencies.

Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski disclosed that during the first half of 2024, more than 400,000 attempted or successful cyberattacks were recorded. This marks an increase compared to the 370,000 attacks in the previous year.

In response, the Polish government is planning new legislation to enhance the country's cybersecurity measures. Part of these plans includes mandating internet operators to maintain data on servers within Poland to ensure better internal protection and oversight by national authorities.
