A man has been arrested, and a cleric has been booked for allegedly raping a Dalit woman through impersonation, an officer reported on Sunday.
According to Rajiv Sharma, SHO of Puranpur Police Station, the victim claimed that Firdaus raped her multiple times, while Hafiz Noor Ahmed raped her once. Local right-wing Hindu group members apprehended the woman and Firdaus on their way to a hotel and handed them over to the police.
The woman told police that Firdaus forced her to accompany him to the hotel. Firdaus, posing as a Hindu Dalit, gained her trust and exploited her, the police revealed, quoting the complaint. The victim also accused Firdaus of taking her to Hafiz Noor Ahmed, who raped her under the guise of exorcising a spirit, and of recording the incident to threaten her.
On Sunday, Police arrested Firdaus, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend Noor Ahmed, according to the SHO.
