Two men accused of raping a minor in Assam's Dhing area have been apprehended after a two-week-long pursuit, police confirmed today.

Massive protests erupted across Assam following the incident.

One of the suspects was nabbed from Dimapur in Nagaland, while the other was caught in Assam's Morigaon district.

''Assam Police have arrested both absconding accused in the Dhing rape incident,'' Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on X.

The arrested individuals have been taken to Nagaon Sadar police station for interrogation.

Both suspects had been on the run since the crime on August 22.

The principal accused was initially caught but managed to escape when taken to the crime scene for reconstruction.

The 14-year-old victim was allegedly gang-raped by three men on a motorcycle as she was returning home from tuition classes in Dhing.

The crime triggered widespread public outrage, prompting the chief minister to order immediate action and send top officials to the site.
