Turkish-American Woman Killed During West Bank Protest

Israeli troops shot and killed a Turkish-American woman who had been taking part in a protest against settlement expansion in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Friday, Palestinian and Turkish officials said. The White House said it was deeply disturbed by the death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi and called on Israel to investigate.

Palestinian officials described Eygi as a 26-year-old activist who held both U.S. and Turkish citizenship. Israel's military stated that its troops had fired toward a male 'main instigator' posing a threat by hurling rocks at soldiers, and they were reviewing reports of a female foreign national being killed as a result of the shooting.

Fouad Nafaa, head of Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, reported that Eygi arrived in critical condition and succumbed to a serious head injury despite resuscitation efforts. The incident, which happened during a regular protest in Beita, has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for a thorough investigation.
