Protest Casualty: Dual U.S.-Turkish Citizen Dies in West Bank Shooting

A dual U.S.-Turkish citizen involved in a protest against settlement expansion in the Israeli-occupied West Bank has succumbed to her injuries after being shot in the head by Israeli troops, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The U.S. State Department and Turkey's Foreign Ministry have confirmed Aysenur Ezgi Eygi's death, with the Turkish ministry condemning it as a 'murder carried out by the Netanyahu government.' The Israeli military is currently investigating the incident.

'We are aware of the tragic death of an American citizen, Aysenur Eygi,' said State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller. 'We offer our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. We are urgently gathering more information about the circumstances of her death.' Fouad Nafaa, head of Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, reported that Eygi arrived in critical condition and, despite resuscitation efforts, did not survive.

WAFA noted the incident took place during a regular protest in Beita, near Nablus, marked by repeated attacks from nationalist Jewish settlers. Rising violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinian villages has provoked growing anger from Western allies, including the United States.
