The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has raised concerns about the rationale behind the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) allowing the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to lay sewerage networks across four unauthorized colonies in the O zone of the Yamuna floodplain.

The NGT's scrutiny comes amid worries over 161 colonies in this flood-prone zone impacting Yamuna's ecology. The zone covers the entire riverbed in Delhi, where any construction is restricted by DDA regulations.

Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava's bench remarked on the necessity to evaluate if these No Objection Certificates (NOCs) would prompt more unauthorized settlements. The bench also sought a detailed response from the DDA and DJB on this issue, marking December 11 for further proceedings.
