A female advocate, Shabeen Bi, attempted to set herself on fire inside the premises of the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on Friday, citing police inaction in her harassment cases, officials reported.

She entered the office and poured flammable liquid over herself. Police personnel quickly intervened to prevent the self-immolation.

Circle Officer Pankaj Srivastav identified Shabeen Bi as a resident of the Meerganj Police station area, stating she and her sisters were being harassed by their village head. The matter is now under investigation.

According to her sister, Anchal Khan, Shabeen Bi had reported the misconduct of the village head to various government departments, which allegedly led to further harassment. She claimed that the local police did nothing and even filed a false case against her sister.
