Suspected Militant Attack in Moirang: Elderly Man Killed, Five Injured

An elderly man was killed and five others, including a 13-year-old girl, were injured in a suspected militant bomb attack on a residential area in Moirang, Bishnupur district. The improvised rocket fell in the compound of former chief minister Mairembam Koireng’s residence. This was the second rocket attack in the district on the same day.

The improvised rocket landed in the compound of former chief minister Mairembam Koireng's residence, the second rocket to hit the district that day. 'The elderly man was preparing for some religious rituals in the compound when the bomb exploded, killing him instantly,' an official noted.

Among the injured are a 13-year-old girl. The rocket fell around two kilometers from the INA headquarters, a site of historical significance where the Tricolor Flag of free India was first hoisted by INA officials under Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on April 14, 1944. Earlier, another rocket had been fired from nearby hills toward Tronglaobi, about 45 km from Imphal.
