China Seeks WTO Talks Over Canada's Tariffs
China has requested consultations with Canada at the World Trade Organization over Canada's tariffs on electric vehicles and steel and aluminum goods. This comes after Canada imposed these tariffs, prompting Beijing to announce an anti-dumping investigation into Canadian canola imports.
China has formally requested discussions with Canada at the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding Ottawa's tariffs on electric vehicles as well as steel and aluminum products. This request comes in the same week that Beijing revealed plans to investigate Canadian canola imports.
On Tuesday, Beijing announced its intention to launch an anti-dumping probe into canola imports from Canada. This move follows Canada's decision to join the U.S. and EU in imposing a 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles and a 25% tariff on its imported steel and aluminum.
In a statement released by China's commerce ministry, it was reported that China filed for consultations on September 6 concerning the additional tariffs imposed by Canada. The ministry accused Canada of violating WTO rules and commitments, urging immediate rectification.
