The Hazira industrial area in Gujarat's Surat witnessed a tragic incident on Tuesday evening when a fire at a steel plant claimed the lives of four workers and injured another.
The blaze, which occurred at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, was reportedly caused by burning coal spilling over, according to Surat Commissioner of Police Anupam Singh Gehlot. The incident is under investigation by local authorities and the factory inspector.
Company representatives confirmed the fire took place at the Corex plant during equipment restart. A statement was issued expressing condolences and detailing support for affected families. All safety protocols were enacted, and an internal investigation has begun to determine the exact cause.
