Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has called for immediate action on the long-standing Teesta water-sharing treaty with India, stating that delaying it serves no purpose. Yunus stressed the need for both nations to resolve the issue in accordance with international norms, highlighting the specific rights of lower riparian countries like Bangladesh.

In an interview with PTI at his official residence in Dhaka, Yunus emphasized the importance of finalizing the treaty even if Bangladesh is not entirely satisfied with the water allocation. He clarified that the interim government would actively pursue the matter, but a collective effort with India is essential for resolution.

Yunus also addressed humanitarian efforts to manage flood situations caused by monsoon rainfall, suggesting bilateral cooperation without waiting for a formal treaty. Additionally, he condemned the border killings of Bangladeshi citizens, labeling such actions as callous and urging for legal mechanisms to handle border security issues.
