The US Justice Department has broadened its indictment concerning the WhisperGate malware attacks. The revised legal action names five Russian military intelligence officers accused of orchestrating cyberattacks aimed at destroying computer systems in Ukraine and 26 NATO allies, including the United States.

A grand jury in Baltimore has indicted these officers, alongside a 22-year-old Russian civilian, for conspiring to infiltrate and damage computer networks. This effort is part of a broader strategy to undermine Ukrainian morale ahead of Russia's full-scale invasion. US authorities allege that personal information from thousands of Ukrainian civilians was stolen and leaked online.

Despite the defendants likely residing in Russia, the US hopes the indictment will curb their ability to travel and expose the conspiracy. Additionally, the US government has announced a reward of $60 million for information leading to their apprehension. Cybersecurity advisories are being issued to prevent future attacks, underscoring the persistent Russian cyber threat.
