In a landmark move towards achieving peace and stability in Northeast India, a Memorandum of Settlement was signed today in New Delhi between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) along with the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF). The agreement marks a significant milestone in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and insurgency-free Northeast. The signing ceremony was graced by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, along with the Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Government of Tripura.

On this momentous occasion, Shri Amit Shah hailed the agreement as a crucial step towards ending a 35-year-long conflict in Tripura. He commended the NLFT and ATTF for their confidence in the Modi government and their commitment to the development of Tripura by abandoning the path of violence.

Shri Amit Shah emphasized that since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the government has prioritized peace and dialogue as central to developing a capable and prosperous Northeast. He highlighted how the Modi government has bridged not only the geographical distances between New Delhi and the Northeast but also the emotional and cultural differences, fostering a sense of unity and inclusion. The agreement aligns with the government’s broader strategy of 'Ashtalakshmi' and 'Purvodaya,' aiming for the comprehensive development of the region.

This Memorandum of Settlement is the 12th agreement for the Northeast and the third specifically related to Tripura. These agreements have been instrumental in bringing nearly 10,000 insurgents into the mainstream, significantly reducing the loss of innocent lives and contributing to the region's stability.

Under the terms of today's agreement, over 328 armed cadres from NLFT and ATTF will lay down their weapons, disband their armed organizations, and join the democratic process. The government has also announced a special development package worth Rs 250 crore to support the tribal population of Tripura, ensuring that those who give up violence can contribute to the state's growth as proud citizens.

Shri Amit Shah reiterated that the Modi government is committed to implementing all agreements in both letter and spirit. He pointed to the successful implementation of the Bru-Reang agreement, which has allowed thousands of displaced people to return to their homes, access education, and benefit from various public welfare schemes.

Furthermore, the Union Home Minister noted that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) was lifted from Tripura in 2015 and has been withdrawn from several other parts of the Northeast. This move reflects the government's commitment to developing the Northeast by preserving and promoting the region's unique cultures, languages, and identities, especially those of tribal groups.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their efforts in establishing lasting peace and prosperity in Tripura and the wider Northeast region. The successful signing of this agreement is a testament to the government's dedication to building an empowered and unified Tripura, free from the shadows of insurgency.
