The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the New Delhi Municipal Council's (NDMC) stand on a plea concerning the tragic drowning of a 15-year-old boy in rainwater in the Chanakyapuri area last month.
A bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan issued a notice to the NDMC on the PIL filed by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Shekhawat's plea seeks accountability from officials for the tragedy.
NDMC's counsel requested time to respond, asserting there was 'not so much waterlogging' in the areas under its jurisdiction. However, the bench, also comprising Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, rejected this statement, stating that significant waterlogging had occurred in NDMC areas.
The boy drowned on August 23, following heavy rainfall, while playing near The British School in Chanakyapuri.
The petitioner is seeking compensation for the deceased's family and steps to prevent future flood-like situations in NDMC regions. The court has scheduled the next hearing for December.
