Former Principal Takes Alleged RG Kar Medical College Scandal to Supreme Court

Sandip Ghosh, ex-principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, has approached the Supreme Court challenging a Calcutta High Court order. The high court had dismissed his plea to be a part of a petition regarding financial irregularities at the college during his tenure. Concurrent investigations into the alleged murder and rape of a junior doctor have intensified public outcry.

Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, has escalated his legal battle to the Supreme Court. He is challenging a Calcutta High Court decision that dismissed his request to be included as a party in a financial irregularities case tied to his tenure.

On August 23, the Calcutta High Court mandated the transfer of the investigation into the alleged financial misconduct from a state-formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The unfolding scandal coincides with nationwide protests sparked by the murder and alleged rape of a junior doctor at the same hospital. The doctor's body, bearing severe injury marks, was discovered in the seminar hall of the institution's chest department on August 9. A civic volunteer was arrested the following day by the Kolkata Police in connection with the case.
