Malaysia to Investigate Leak of Classified Diplomatic Note from China
Malaysia's foreign ministry announced it will file a police report and conduct an internal investigation regarding the leak of a classified diplomatic note sent by China's foreign ministry to the Malaysian embassy in Beijing. The note's publication by a Philippine media outlet has prompted this action, with Malaysia reiterating its commitment to defending its sovereignty in South China Sea disputes.
Malaysia's foreign ministry stated on Wednesday that it would file a police report and initiate an internal investigation into the unauthorized release of a classified diplomatic note. The note, originally sent by China's foreign ministry to the Malaysian embassy in Beijing in February, was published by a Philippine media outlet on August 29.
The ministry did not provide details about the contents of the diplomatic note. However, the leak has prompted Malaysia to affirm its dedication to protecting its sovereignty and sovereign rights in the South China Sea. The statement emphasized Malaysia's preference for peaceful resolution of disputes and active engagement with all involved nations, including China, with which Malaysia maintains close bilateral relations.
Malaysia's response underscores its commitment to uphold national interests while fostering diplomatic ties in a region marked by complex geopolitical tensions.
