The Centre on Tuesday petitioned the Supreme Court, accusing the West Bengal government of 'unpardonable' non-cooperation in aiding the CISF, which is responsible for security at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital following the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor.

Describing the TMC government's alleged non-cooperation as 'symptomatic of a systemic malaise,' the Union Ministry of Home Affairs sought an order for full cooperation from West Bengal authorities with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

On August 20, the apex court had denounced the doctor's rape and murder as 'horrific,' mandating several measures, including the formation of a National Task Force (NTF) to develop protocols ensuring the safety of healthcare professionals. The court also addressed mob violence at the hospital and claims of police inaction, ordering CISF deployment to ensure doctors could safely resume work.
