A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody on Tuesday in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl, according to local police.

The First Information Report (FIR) lodged on August 21 states that the boy lured the minor girl, who was home alone, to a nearby spot where he allegedly committed the crime, said Chandrashekhar Yadav, in-charge at Chitbadagaon Police Station.

The accused was staying at his uncle's home at the time, while the girl resided nearby. Acting on the complaint filed by the girl's father, authorities have registered a case under Section 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Yadav reported.

On Tuesday, the accused was brought before the Ballia Juvenile Court, which has placed him in judicial custody for 14 days at a juvenile home in Mau.
