Channel Migrant Crisis: Rescue Operation Underway
At least 10 migrants are in critical condition after their boat capsized in the Channel. A major rescue operation is in progress to save over 50 people. The incident underscores ongoing efforts by British and French governments to tackle illegal immigration.
At least 10 migrants are in critical condition after a boat capsized while attempting to cross the Channel from France to Britain, according to a spokesperson for the French coast guard on Tuesday. Over 50 people are currently involved in a major rescue operation.
A local mayor, quoted by France 3, stated that approximately 10 migrants are in cardiac arrest. Addressing illegal immigration has been a major focus for both the British and French governments, with thousands arriving in Britain this year via small boats.
Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer committed to closer cooperation to dismantle migrant smuggling routes. The Channel remains one of the world’s busiest and most perilous shipping lanes, with strong currents adding to the danger of crossing in small boats.
In August, two migrants were found dead after their boat encountered difficulties during the Channel crossing.
