A YouTuber-journalist named Kamlesh, known as Fighter, and his brother-in-law Suraj Kumar, alias Majnu, were arrested in Kanpur on Monday on charges of extortion, according to police officials.
Kamlesh allegedly headed a syndicate consisting of over a dozen members, primarily for organized crime activities such as extortion, a senior police officer confirmed.
This arrest aligns with an ongoing investigation by Kanpur Police into alleged extortionists, including YouTubers and journalists, following the July arrest of TV journalist Avneesh Dixit, who was accused of attempting to seize nazul land valued over Rs 1,000 crore. To date, around 15 FIRs have been lodged against more than six dozen journalists and YouTubers. Kamlesh faces five FIRs within the last two weeks, revealed Harish Chander, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).
