In a new development, a petition has been lodged in the Supreme Court challenging its earlier decision to reject the re-conduction of the NEET-UG 2024 examination.

Previously, on August 2, the top court had stated there was insufficient evidence to prove a systemic leak or malpractice that could have compromised the examination's integrity.

The plea, filed by Kajal Kumari, seeks a reconsideration of this verdict. It urges the court to reopen discussions on the matter, potentially reshaping the current examination landscape.

The Supreme Court had earlier expanded the remit of a panel led by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan. This panel, tasked with evaluating the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA), is expected to suggest examination reforms and address the deficiencies highlighted by the court.

The expanded remit requires the committee to submit its recommendations by September 30. The court has instructed the NTA to take heed of all concerns highlighted in the judgment.

This comes as over 23 lakh students vie for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses through the NEET-UG 2024, which was conducted on May 5.
