Enforcement agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have seized cash, drugs, and other materials totaling Rs 5.71 crore within the first 12 days of enforcing the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the upcoming assembly elections, according to poll officials.

These efforts aim to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure a level playing field for all contestants, as emphasized by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The seized items were allegedly intended to influence voters ahead of the three-phase elections starting on September 18, involving over 88 lakh eligible voters in the Union Territory (UT).

In a statement, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir detailed that major seizures were conducted by the police department, accounting for Rs 5.02 crore, followed by SGST/CT with Rs 52 lakh, and NCB with Rs 11 lakh. The Election Department commended the efforts of the enforcement agencies.

A Command and Control Room has been established at the CEO's office in Jammu and Srinagar to monitor election-related activities and MCC compliance. Additionally, mini-control rooms have been set up at every district electoral office, operating around the clock. All electronic and social media platforms are being monitored for potential violations, which are promptly addressed by the concerned returning officials.

The statement also mentioned that the Control Room is tracking live feeds from polling stations and using GPS to monitor vehicles used by poll parties.
