A 42-year-old man was apprehended on Sunday by police for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in Palghar district of Maharashtra, according to an official statement.

The suspect, identified as Rama Ganpat Bhoir and residing in Tarapur, purportedly committed the heinous act on Saturday afternoon. He reportedly attacked the minor when she was alone at her home, fleeing the scene once she raised an alarm.

Following the girl's disclosure of the assault, her parents promptly lodged a police complaint. Consequently, authorities have filed charges against Bhoir under section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
