Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has elevated his top military commander, Oleksander Syrskyi, to the rank of four-star general, as confirmed by his office on Saturday. The promotion follows Ukraine's successful military push into Russia's Kursk region.

On August 6, Ukraine launched an offensive into the Kursk region, claiming control over more than 90 settlements. This successful military operation serves as an embarrassment for Russia, while in the eastern Donetsk region, Russian forces have been advancing incrementally.

Syrskyi, who hails from Russia's Vladimir region but has been based in Ukraine since the 1980s, was appointed as the head of Ukraine's army in February.
