A 22-year-old college student was allegedly harassed by a yet-to-be-identified man near Mumbra railway station, police reported on Saturday.

The incident happened on the evening of August 22, and law enforcement is actively working to determine the suspect's identity, according to an official source.

This incident occurred amid public outrage over the recent sexual assault of two kindergarten students in Badlapur, a neighboring district.

The victim was walking home from college around 6:30 pm when a young man, approximately 25 years old with long hair, started following her, as per her complaint.

When she attempted to call her brother for help, the man shoved her. Her cries for help attracted passersby, who unsuccessfully chased the perpetrator, an official stated. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sections 74 for assault, 78(1) for stalking, and 79 for offending a woman's modesty.

'We are taking this case very seriously and have launched a thorough investigation,' affirmed an official from the Mumbra police station.
