A French police officer sustained injuries on Saturday after a car exploded in the car park of a synagogue in La Grande-Motte, according to a police union representative. Authorities are treating the incident as an attempted arson attack.

William Maury, of the police union Alliance Police Nationale, confirmed the explosion, stating on social media platform X that the officer's life was not in danger. Local media reported that two cars caught fire, one containing at least one gas canister.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin assured the Jewish community and La Grande-Motte residents of full support and an intensified search for the suspect, following directives from President Emmanuel Macron.
