Allahabad High Court Acquits Man in 2001 Rape Case Due to Lack of Evidence

Medical evidence did not show injury to the victim, and inconsistencies were found in witness statements. This led the court to find insufficient evidence for conviction.

The Allahabad High Court has acquitted a man sentenced to life imprisonment in 2002 for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in 2001. The acquittal was based on the lack of medical evidence showing injuries and inconsistencies in witness statements.

A bench comprising Justices Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Gautam Chowdhary noted that if the crime had occurred, some injury would have been evident in the medical report or the doctor's testimony. The court found that neither the victim's statements nor the witness testimonies corroborated the medical evidence.

Despite a six-and-a-half-hour medical examination post-incident, no injuries were reported. Moreover, the victim's unreliable response during the trial and contradictions in witness observations raised doubts. Considering all these factors, the court on Thursday acquitted the accused.
