Emmitt Martin, a former Tennessee police officer indicted in connection with the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols, will change his not guilty plea in federal court this Friday, as per recent court filings.
Martin is one of five former officers charged with the brutal death of Nichols. The 29-year-old FedEx worker was mercilessly beaten after being dragged from his car and was left without medical assistance for over 20 minutes.
In September, the officers were hit with federal charges for depriving Nichols of his rights through excessive force and obstruction of justice. As part of a plea deal, one officer, Desmond Mills Jr., has already pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors.
