Iran's newly appointed Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated in conversations with his French and British counterparts that Iran reserved the right to retaliate against Israel for the assassination of a Hamas official in Tehran. The official IRNA news agency reported on these statements.

Araqchi emphasized to France's Stephane Sejourne and Britain's David Lammy that the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on July 31 was 'an unforgivable violation of Iran's security and sovereignty.' He reiterated that 'punishing the aggressor is Iran's right.'

While Israel has not acknowledged any involvement in the assassination, France and Britain had called to congratulate Araqchi on his recent appointment as Iran's new Foreign Minister.
