Former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba, recently acquitted in a Maoist links case, has recounted his harrowing period of incarceration. Saibaba, who was arrested in May 2014 by Maharashtra Police, alleged gross mistreatment during his imprisonment at Nagpur Central Jail, including severe medical neglect despite paralysis on the left side of his body.

Saibaba claimed that his arrest was an effort to silence his voice, describing it as a 'kidnapping.' Despite severe health challenges, he alleged that authorities only provided painkillers and warned him to keep quiet about his ordeal, threatening further false charges if he spoke out.

The Bombay High Court set aside Saibaba's life sentence in March this year, citing insufficient evidence. Post-acquittal, Saibaba highlighted the psychological and physical strain of being held in high-security 'anda' cells, intended for solitary confinement, and called for accountability from those responsible for his suffering.
