Former ETA leader Miguel de Garikoitz Aspiazu Rubin, known by the alias 'Txeroki', has been moved from a French prison to a Spanish one, according to Etxerat, an association for families of ETA prisoners. The transfer was confirmed by Spanish prison authorities, following EU laws allowing prisoners to serve sentences in their home countries.

Aspiazu Rubin was sentenced to 20 years in a French court in 2013 for his involvement in a kidnapping and possession of explosives. He was Spain's most wanted person at the time of his arrest in 2008 due to his alleged role in a 2006 Madrid airport bombing that killed two.

ETA, which waged a violent campaign for Basque independence from the 1960s until its dissolution in 2018, was associated with over 850 deaths. Rubin's transfer marks a significant step in the lengthy judicial process surrounding ETA's former members.
