According to Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for Ukraine's Navy, the ferry was pivotal in Russian military logistics. 'This ferry is one of the most important chains of Russian military logistics to supply the occupation forces', Pletenchuk told Radio Liberty.

He added that it primarily transported fuel but also weapons to support Russian forces in the occupied region.
