A couple in western New York faces manslaughter charges after their 3-month-old baby was fatally mauled by dogs. Sulamain Hawkins and Anastasia Weaver left their baby in an attic with the dogs while they went downstairs to smoke marijuana, according to authorities.

The incident took place on August 3 in Rochester. When the couple returned to the attic, they discovered their baby, Sulamain Hawkins Jr., had been attacked. The child was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.

Following a thorough investigation by police, child protective services, and the Monroe County district attorney's office, Hawkins and Weaver were arrested and charged. They were arraigned on manslaughter charges and are due in court on August 27. The dogs involved were euthanized following the incident.
